SHERMAN, Tex. ― Some St. Mary’s Catholic School students spent six months collecting cereal box tops to win $10,000. They were presented with the prize by general mills representatives on Thursday.
Students at St. Mary's Catholic School collected 20,000 box tops to win a General Mills contest. St. Mary's is one of three Texas schools that will receive $10,000.
Administrators say there are only 155 students attending St. Mary's, and they are amazed at what they were able to accomplish so quickly.
"What we can do as far as giving back to the community that support our products, it’s just one of those things that is the right thing to do, and we try to do it every opportunity we get," Junior Sconce with General Mills says.
School administrators hope to use the money for new playground equipment.
