SHERMAN -- Kids are out of school for the summer, but work at a local elementary is just beginning.

Demolition at Washington Elementary in Sherman starts Thursday. The crew on-site was ripping out old heating ducts, piling debris, and preparing it to be hauled off.

Billy Nabors construction worker Ricky Watson says a timetable has been set for when the walls will come tumbling down.

"We have thirty days. It will be gone in thirty days.”

Students that attended Washington this year will be bussed to Niblet Elementary next year.

They will return to Washington in the fall of 2008.

It's a shame that the old school is going down. I guess it served its purpose. I went my early school years there and remember it fondly. Progress, time marches on.

What a ridiculous waste of taxpayers money. That school was just refurbished 10 years ago with the last mega-zillion dollar bond election. Sherman taxpayers are fools.
