DENISON, TX - An appeal made by the Sherman and Denison Independent School Districts to the UIL over district realignment was denied this morning, Denison ISD officials say.

Denison ISD received word today that the UIL Appeals Committee has denied the district's request to repeal the recent realignment that places Denison and Sherman in a district with schools as far away as Texarkana and Mount Pleasant.

Denison ISD Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott says his biggest concern is travel problems caused by the new geographically vast district .

The new District 13-4A also consists of Greenville, Royce City, and Sulphur Springs.

Reading all of these comments was tiring. Is it just me, or is anyone else appalled by the lack of grammar and spelling? I agree that sports should be secondary to academics. The Sherman/Denison area is a very good example of the TV show "Friday Night Lights". Get a life, people!!! Only 0.8% of high school football players ever make it to the NFL. That leaves 99.2% that need an education adequate enough to be a productive member of society. The UIL re-alignment causes a kerfuffle every two years. Let's show our children how to cope with the disappointments of life by buckling down and doing whatever is necessary. So, it's an inconvenience to travel to Texarkana. Why can't the students do their homework on the trip. Getting home late shouldn't be too much of a problem for the students. They "could" sleep on the trip home to avoid being tired the next day, but kids are kids and they want to socialize on the way back. I think it is the parents who feel inconvenienced by the late arrival.

yea and some of the refs need to take a look at some of the calls they make.uil is no better than any of our kids and they put there clothes on the same way one leg at a time.maybe they should be made to be at every game that we and sherman have to make and get up the next day. or maybe all highschool games should have to be played only on saturday afternoon instead of tue. thurs. & fri. nights. then the kids and parents would be in a better mood.we should also consider getting charter buses for the long trips so we could have more fans, and it would not be as expensive, share the cost.in the next two weeks will have 5 grandkids in sports.1 in hs.baseball,1 in sher.varsity softball,1 in middleschool tract,1 in little leauge baseball,1 in soccer.i plan on making alot of these games.most if it is possible.i think that the kids need to respect the out of town stadiums. they should not leave trash it is a reflection on our school & our town.

As I said earlier, DISD and SISD were justified in filing the appeal. However, I don't believe they should file any lawsuit. Hopefully, they are not considering it.

Isn't it funny... people who have no clue about how a system works, dictates to others how to behave, and then resorts to personal attacks when backed into a corner for facts...has the nerve to accuse others of idiocy. Having been involved in high school sports broadcasting for many years and having seen the UIL execute poor alignments many times, all that is being suggested is that there has to be a better way. Look at Howe in Southern Grayson County. They have to travel to Paradise? Do you think Howe is swimming in money to support such long trips? Sherman/Denison aren't the only ones being impacted. And if a lawsuit is the only thing that gets the UIL's attention, then so be it. Something has to be done other than telling people to man up and shut up.

This has nothing to do about man/woman upping...it's about common sense. Please tell us "Mr./Mrs. Babies", what district were you in when you played high school and in what year? Bet we don't get a response from that! There is absolutely no need for the UIL to align the schools the way they did. They need to be sued and the idiocy needs to be exposed.

Well I know when I was in HS that all of our games were no less than 3 hours away. We were taught work comes first before play. We all still managed to get to school and the grades to play. So quit being babies and man/woman up. If you don't want late nights then transfer or don't play.

Stupid things like this happen when idiots are placed or elected into powerfull postions. When are we going to learn as a majortiy that the popular people were some of the bullies and snooty nosed stuck up $@!#%^$ dating back to high school. In some way or another they gained more and more power as time went on and now they are in positions to really screw people over. Wake up! Our entire nation is on this path.

It's really going to cut down on ticket sales at games I think. After you get something to eat on the way there and refill your vehicle you're probably going to be out at least forty bucks. Thats before you even buy the tickets to the game.
