Food That’s In When School’s Out

The Denison Independent School District has announced the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program, which provides free meals to all children age 18 and younger.

Adults over 18 may purchase a breakfast tray for $1.25 and a lunch tray for $2.00. Breakfast will be served at Mayes Elementary School between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m. Lunch will be serves at Mayes from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast will be served at Golden Rule Elementary School between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Lunch will be served there between 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. Meals will be provided at Golden Rule Elementary, 811 W. Florence, from June 10 through August 17, and at Mayes Elementary, 201 Jennie Lane, from June 10 until June 30.

The Summer Food Service Program will provide up to three entrees daily at both meal services. All menus will be planned to meet nutritional guidelines of 30 percent or less fat, and 10 percent or less saturated fat. Menus will also meet a minimum calorie requirement.

Food Service Director Debbie Hosford said, “The menu has been written with the kid’s tastes in mind.” Breakfast will contain a variety of entrees including cinnamon rolls, cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage and biscuits. Lunch entrees will vary from pizza, cheeseburgers, steak fingers, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets. Menus will be posted at Golden Rule Elementary and Mayes Elementary.
