It's the biggest night of the school year for many....homecoming. But with the dances, the football games, and the kings and queens come those homecoming mums. First News reporter Emi FitzGerald blogs about this essential accessory for teenage girls.

Like Emi said in her blog, we want to see your mums! Send them to the First News Inbox at with "Mum" as the subject. We'll post them at a later date.

Have a safe and happy homecoming!

Hey Lynn - get over it! The mums are only worn one day a year! Why do people think that just because they don't like something that no one else should be able enjoy it?

Jamie: This is your passion and your life, making mums? What do you do with the other 11 1/2 months of the year? Just kidding :)

I just finished with Shermans Homecoming and now to have our own towns coming up Oct. 20.This is my Passion and my life. On the average year I make any where from 25-100 mums during the football season.2004 was my most enjoyable year with making over 200 mums from Whitewright,Tom Bean,Whitesboro,S&S,Valley View,Collinsville,Howe,Sherman,Denison, and Bells.Of the mums I made 6 were for girls on Homecoming Courts. There is alot of blood, sweat, and burns that goes into the making of one.Iam not like the mass merchandiser stores who make them all alike.I want each one to be unique and no 2 alike.Who wants to show up with 50 girls having a mum that looks just like yours? My great joy each year is the look in a girls face when she sees her mum for the first time and feels like a Queen.

I remember how distracting the stupid bells and jingles were on the mums... Try to take a test with all that noise going on. Thank god I wasn't a "prep", who fell into this catagory. One more thing to not miss from my high school days.

I graduated over 15 yrs ago and STILL remember how "important" they were. It used to be a competition among some to see who got the best, double or triple mum. I still have mine from DHS and I'm proud to be a Yellowjacket!

Oh Boy! I just finished making my daughters and my sons girlfriends mums and got them to the school to be delivered to the girls.I just love making them. Not only does it give me something to do,but I can take my time and make them look beautiful. Which these turned out great.I did not see this on the local news because I was too busy making these mums that I missed the news so hopefully I will get pics of them after school to post and that they look as good as they were when they were delivered. Thanks KXII

Here in Sherman our homecoming game is the 21st. The girls will wear them to school that day and the guys will wear their garter. Yeah it's that time again and now this year my daughter not only has me making her bf's garter she is having me make one for her friends date too. Guess I better get busy.
