SHERMAN, Tex. -- Former Bearcat football star Trenell Walker spoke to Sherman High School teens early Wednesday morning in the school auditorium. Walker received a standing ovation from the kids. The former football player was paralyzed back in 1995, after being hit on the second play of a game in Wichita Falls.

Thirteen years later, he's back telling young people to not give up on their dreams.

Since the injury, Walker has graduated from a four-year college and also attained his master’s degree.

Walker has raised questions about the safety on the field and whether ninth graders should ever be bumped up to a varsity team.

This man is the greatest man I have ever met. I worked with him for a short while through his internship through the UNT. He is awsome! He has taught me many things!

I don't know this young man personally, but I have been at events and he was there positive and outgoing. He is an example that many of our children should follow. He did not let his injury rule his life but he took control of his life. We often as people let different things in life take control of our lives. May God bless you and that He continue to order your steps.

It's so great to see an update! He has always been so positive and it's great to see him relaying that to others. I remember that 'moment' all too well and so glad that he has continued to make the best of the situation.
