DENISON, TX--Denison I-S-D is preparing to ask voters for nearly $80 million in upgrades, but before election day, school leaders want the voters to see the schools that would be impacted by bond funding.

School leaders are offering public tours of all campuses in the coming weeks. The $79.75 million dollar bond would fund a new high school and renovation to several schools as well as consolidate two elementary campuses.

That would mean demolition of Layne Elementary School and Golden Rule Elementary School. The tours continue Thursday night at Denison High School.

Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott says the school wants voters to see why the school needs the upgrades for themselves. Dr. Scott says while he understands most people do not like a tax increase, the 19.5 cent tax rate increase, which will pay for the upgrades, will make taxes about average for what they are in other school districts in our area.

The district will conduct a presentation beginning at 6 p.m. and the tour will begin at 6:40 p.m.

The schedule is:

Golden Rule Elementary School-March 22
Denison High School- March 24
Mayes Elementary School-March 28
Layne Elementary School- March 31
Houston Elementary School- April 7
Lamar Elementary School-April 12
Terrell Elementary School-April 14
B. McDaniel Middle School-April 18
Hyde Park Elementary School April 21

The 6 p.m. presentation at each campus will cover the same overall information about the bond. However, each tour will be campus-specific. District officials said community members are encouraged to attend as many of the presentations and tours as possible.

Make sure to go over to the "signs of a school bond in Denison" story, under "most discussed stories" to see my proposal to fix the schools. I promised an alternative and I posted it there. Thanks

THE COUNTY TRIED TO SHOVE A 40 MILLION DOLLAR JAIL DOWN OUR WAY AND WHEN IT FAILED, THEY FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE FIXED FOR A LOT LESS AND ALREADY HAD THE MONEY TO DO SO IN THE COFFERS, MAYBE THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT MORE CLOSELY

I hope to practice what school's preach and build an energy smart building. Lady bird ISD (Irving)just opened a multi wind turbine solar panel Leed platinum school. The University of north texas new stadium is going to be leed certified complete with large turbines itself. Hopefully Denison will follow suit.

Denison is the "land of the lost". The people are good but stuck in the 1930's.

factfinder, legal eagle brought up Paris, go back and look. Once again you are interacting with HS kids that don't vote, just having fun. I don't think the yes people are posting here anymore and haven't for a while. While your wasting your time with kids the yes committe is getting out their message face to face. And Andy pays taxesyou just don't know who to search for.But I don't think the kids care anyway.
