Sherman companies submit marketing packets to attract Finisar employees

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) -- After the announcement of Finisar's partnership with Apple in December, city leaders want to make sure the 600 new employees will make Sherman their home.

Last week, the city gathered local realtors, developers and bankers together and asked them to submit a marketing packet to send to future Finisar employees.

"As a result, we've had 18 different packages submitted to go into this marketing plan," said Sherman director of administration Terrence Steele.

Steele said a variety of people submitted packages, all different. Some were flyers, some were folders with information, and a few even had multimedia presentations like DVD's and a mini television.

Steele said some people that submitted their plans didn't even attend the luncheon on Thursday. One of those people was Jack Halligan, who owns Joist Construction and remodels homes. He said he wants to let people know they can purchase and older home with the intent of fixing it up if they don't want to buy new or custom.

"That's the main reason [I submitted mine]," Halligan said, "to help families settle in here. It's a nice community."

Then there are the developers, like Simon Keizer, the Chief Operation Officer with Integrity Custom Homes based in McKinney. His company wants to jump into the hot market in Texoma. They already have several homes plotted in Denison's new Gateway Village and some coming to Sherman off 1417 in the coming months.

"As we saw the growth coming to the city of Sherman, the Texoma area," Keizer said, "We've been planning, preparing and partnering with key relationships in the region."

Steele said he's converting all the packets into PDF's and will send them out to Finisar's human resources director in the next few weeks.

"Sherman offers an incredible amount of opportunity for Finisar employees," Keizer said.

Finisar workers are expected to be hired or relocating within the next three months. The marketing packets will be used to attract other businesses as they come to Sherman in the future, too.
