ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Valero held their annual Benefit for Children event Thursday afternoon.
The company distributed $240,000 to 26 local children's charities.
"It's amazing how easy it is to see the impact that we have on the community and to see the people who actually get to receive it and the difference it makes," Vice President of Ardmore Refinery Kevin Lassahn said.
Vice President of the Ardmore Refinery Kevin Lassahn says the money comes from sponsors in the area as well as money raised during the Valero Golf Tournament held in San Antonio, Texas.
This year the tournament raised 11 million dollars to be donated to Valero facilities around the country.
Lassahn says the charities are nominated by employees and chosen based on the need and outreach they give.
"It is tough but it's amazing the work that these agencies do," Lassahn said.
And recipients like the Boys and Girls Club and Hill Top Equine Therapy already had ideas on what to do with their money.
The kids from the Boys and Girls club tell us they appreciate the donation going towards a place they call a second home.
"It's like family."
"We have fun, we play games and we laugh."
And those at Hilltop also say they are grateful for the donation.
"Valero has been huge to us since we started," Director Dan Corr said, "They're just so supportive and active in the community, they're an extremely good organization."
