SAWYER, Okla. (KXII) -- An investigation is underway after a little boy was found dead in a pond early Friday morning in Choctaw County.
Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park says just after three thirty, the body of a small child was found in a neighbors pond.
Park says the little boy and his mother are from Whitesboro, Texas and were staying there to visit a friend.
The boy's body was taken to Choctaw Memorial Hospital and is now being transported to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the state medical examiner, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lake Patrol Division were called out to the scene.
Park said Department of Health and Human Services was notified earlier this week when the little boy had wandered out on to busy Highway 147 on Wednesday and was found wearing only a diaper.
He was located and placed back with his mother, who told authorities a faulty latch on the front door of the trailer home where they were staying was to blame for his escape.
A report by the sheriff's office was submitted Wednesday to the District Attorney's office to see if charges would be filed for that incident.
OHP, as well as the OSBI and the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office will submit reports to the DA about their investigations into Friday's drowning.
As of this time, no charges have been filed and the death has received a preliminary ruling of accidental.
