Coal County EMS audits reveal years of issues

COAL COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) The Oklahoma State Auditor said a recent audit into the Coal County EMS District shows discrepancies totaling nearly $20,000 from 2015 to 2016.

Gary Jones said he thinks this points to poor bookkeeping but no obvious wrongdoing.

The audit states the district used inadequate financial methods, what Jones calls a lack of checks and balances in their financial management.

Jones said missing board minutes for two meetings in 2014, missing meeting agendas and poor financial safe guards resulted in non-compliance with state statute.

A previous audit, from 2008 to 2013, shows a missing refrigerator and no proof for some purchases or competitive bidding.

Board Chairman Rodger Wilson said they are working on a more specific board contract to make sure these issues are addressed.
