DENISON, Texas (KXII) -- Thursday was the first day of school for Denison ISD, occurring just days after floods rendered 14 of the district's buses inoperable.
Thursday was the first day of school for Denison ISD, occurring just days after floods rendered 14 of the district's buses inoperable.
Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott said the 8 1/2 of rain caused about 4 1/2 feet of water to run through the bus service center.
Mechanics said the engine, transmission, and the interiors of buses were soaked with water.
The district is able to borrow buses from Sherman and Bells until its fleet can be fixed.
Even the rain this morning didn't stop parents and kids from being excited for their first day.
"Yeah, she was nervous, but she was more excited than anything because you know it's been a long summer," Daniel Garcia said about his daughter. "She was just ready and she's real happy and wants to meet friends and she was ready for all that."
Schools in Ada, Durant, Ardmore and Pottsboro schools are all having their first day back on Thursday.
