DICKSON, Okla. (KXII) -- A woman was hospitalized Monday after being bitten by a timber rattlesnake.

Her family tells said she was bitten Monday afternoon at her home on Sandy Creek Road while walking into her shop.

Her daughter took her to Mercy Hospital in Ardmore which carries an antivenom. Mercy said it is the only hospital in the area that carries antivenom.

She has received 18 vials of the antivenom, and could possibly be released as early as Wednesday.

"It basically neutralizes the snake venom," Emergency Physician Byron Foster said, talking about the antivenom. "And keeps it from destroying the local tissue, keeps it from effecting the blood's ability to clot."
