Former Paris resident shot and killed in Ellis County, authorities investigating the case as a homicide

MAYPEARL, Tex. (KXII) - Authorities in Maypearl, Texas are investigating the shooting death of a former Paris resident as a homicide. News 12's Michael Deere brings us the details and how loved ones are remembering the victim.

Early Tuesday morning, Maypearl, Texas Police responded to a shooting at Jon Garner's home on Creekview Circle.

Police say the 42-year-old was found dead by an apparent gunshot.

The Ellis County Criminal Investigations Division and Texas Rangers are assisting Maypearl Police with the investigation of what they believe is a homicide.

Police have released few details so far.

According to the Waxahachie Daily Light, Maypearl Police Chief Boyd Norton says quote, "There is no reason to believe that this is a random event."

And a Facebook post by the police department states that the victim and shooter knew each other.

Norton says authorities are working to develop information and will release more at a later time.

So far no one has been arrested.

Garner lived in Lamar County for nearly two decades before moving to Ellis County.

Friends tell us he worked in management positions at Campbell's, We Pack in Paris and most recently as the General Manager at DHL.

They describe Garner as the definition of a family man who loved his wife, children, relatives and dogs and liked to host barbecues with family and friends.

Everyone we spoke with says they're shocked to hear anyone would want to kill Garner.

We're told his funeral will be January 13th in Waxahachie.
