Gas prices highest in years

LAMAR COUNTY, Tex. (KXII) -- AAA Texas weekend gas watch says the average price of gas today in Texas is up fifty eight cents per gallon compared to this day last year and it's up six cents from last week.

Two dollars and seventy six cents, the Texas average price per gallon, is still twenty cents lower than the national average.

AAA says that high price won't keep travelers home this weekend but drivers will pay the highest memorial day gas prices since 2014.

"I live 30 miles out of town so it costs me sometimes ten dollars a day because I drive a V8 around you know, it hits my pockets pretty good," said Kyler Haagensen while getting gas at the station.

AAA says the main causes for the high prices are expensive crude oil, record gasoline demand and shrinking supply worldwide.
