Grayson Commissioners consider county road plan

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) -- Grayson County engineer Clay Barnett presented his latest thoroughfare plan Tuesday at Commissioners Court.

Grayson County engineer Clay Barnett presented his latest thoroughfare plan Tuesday at Commissioners Court.

The plan is a way to keep up with the exponential growth in the county. The plan has road expansions in store along with completely new roads they have to construct -- Including bringing the Dallas North Tollway north to Denison, widening FM 1417, and changing the U.S. Highway 75 and U.S. Highway 82 intersection.

County leaders said they expect the population to increase 180 percent by 2050 and the plan is the only way to provide the right roadways for that growth.

“We were required to do demographic studies population projects and transportation model in addition to thoroughfare plan to assure the plan can function,” Barnett said.

Barnett said he has to meet with several cities before they can finalize the roadways, draft construction plans, and find ways to fund all of the projects.
