DENISON, Tex. (KXII) - The Grayson County Shelter hosted a free Thanksgiving meal for anyone in the community to enjoy Thursday.

The idea started from a Van Alstyne couple who had been volunteering at the shelter for about a year.
They said they wanted to serve the community for Thanksgiving, so they asked people to make different dishes to bring.
They said they ended up serving hundreds, both at the shelter, and with to-go meals they delivered to local police and fire departments and homeless people.
"It means so much," said Heather Godwin, who helped organize the event. "Jason and I have huge families, we both have a seat at the table, so it was awesome to give back. We're super excited."
They want to continue the tradition next year.
