Grayson County Sheriff warns of phone scam involving fake deputy

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) – The Grayson County Sheriff issued a scam alert on Tuesday, warning that a phone scammer is posing as one of their deputies.

The caller says he is Deputy Sheriff Kenneth Cook, and he threatens to arrest you for failing to appear for jury duty.

The caller then asks you to confirm your address and stay on the phone until you can go down to the Sheriff's Office to settle the matter.

Sheriff Tom Watt said there is no Deputy Kenneth Cook that works with our agency.

Do not confirm your address, identifying numbers or banking information over the phone.

If you have confirmed of this information over the phone and you have lost money or items please make a report with your local law enforcement.
