DENISON, Texas (KXII) -- Students across North Texas head back to school on Monday.
Students filed into Houston Elementary on Monday morning, and parents were close by, ready to offer a few final words of encouragement.
"We just tell them you're going to having a new teacher, you're going to see your friends, and you're going to learn new things most of all," parent Destiny Douglas said.
The first day brought a range of emotions for students and parents alike.
"I was a little bit nervous because they were a little bit nervous," Douglas said. "So, I'm worried, but I hope they have a really good day."
Some are nervous. Obviously new students, obviously kindergarten students are a little nervous. but older students felt differently about heading back to school. "It's more exciting," said Brady, a third grader.
These back to school pros even had a little advice for new students to make their transition easier. "To not be nervous, to follow the rules," Brady said.
And whether or not students feel ready, Houston's teachers are well-prepared for the year ahead. "We just look forward to a great school year," Houston Elementary Principal Kyle Uber said.
