Lamar County deputies investigate possible bomb

LAMAR POINT, Tex. (KXII) -- Deputies in Lamar County were on scene of a possible pipe bomb, found Sunday afternoon by a family walking the trails at Lamar Point, but discovered to not be a pipe bomb.

David Humphrey tells News 12 he and his family were walking on trails near Pat Mayse Lake at Lamar Point Sunday afternoon when they found what they thought could be some sort of fishing equipment.

Humphrey says he picked up the item and saw there was a wire attached.

He told News 12 he immediately put it down and called 911.

Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass says there is no danger to the public.

Authorities confirmed it is not an explosive device.

The scene was not near any houses or buildings.
