Many Areas Getting Less than 30 Percent of Normal Rain Since Sep 1

Mon 16 October 2017

Texoma continues in an overall dry pattern with rainfall running well below normal since late August.

In fact, a geographic majority of our area has gotten only about 30% of their usual rainfall since September 1; wettest areas have generally been over western reaches of Texoma such as Carter, Murray and Pontotoc Counties (see map).

Texoma’s average rainfall for September 1 through the first half of October is just over six inches. The map below shows that no location in Texoma has seen that amount. Furthermore, we’ve been running warmer than average, which increases the daily evaporation rates.

Soaking rainfall is possible this weekend (October 21-22), and although the timing is poor, any rainfall will definitely help to ease dry soil conditions.
