ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - "I have seen a lot of enthusiasm and energy that I haven't seen in a long time," YMCA Director Jana Weichbrodt said. "Our vision that we had is finally a reality."
After undergoing renovations since May 2016, the YMCA opened it's doors for Super Saturday.
"Just like it's brand new, you can't even tell it was the same building," instructor Kristie Tidwell said. "It's wonderful."
"It's home you know, it's always been home and they just have so much to offer here," member Alicia Waddell said.
The Y welcomed people to try out classes and check out the renovated facility free of charge.
Members say the opening is just in time to start their new year resolutions.
"It is fabulous," Waddell said. "I am so happy to be back here and get my routine back going for the new year."
"It's just a good place to come - you get to meet new people and matter of fact we have been coming up here so long now a lot of these people are like families," member Rob Tidwell said.
Director Jana Weichbrodt says the 5.2 million dollar project added new features like an air conditioned gym, bigger rooms, and a warm water pool used for therapeutic classes that will open next month.
"When you move into a place and find out what you need to change and what you need to improve so that's what we are in the process of doing now," Weichbrodt said.
Weichbrodt says they moved to a temporary space while renovations were being made.
She tells us they lost a few members during that time but she is hopeful more people will come back now that they have moved back in.
"A lot has happened in these doors, a lot of children have come through these doors and a lot of history is with this Y," Weichbrodt said. "The community has really embraced us and I really am thankful."
