People from around Texoma turned out Friday at the Choctaw Events Center for free dental care offered by the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy Group.

The event started Friday and continues through Saturday. Doors open at 5 a.m. on Saturday.

It's the ninth year the group has hosted the event, but it's the first time in Durant.

Prospective patients started lining up for the event days ago.

Ryan Stubblefield's niece was diagnosed with breast cancer, and due to chemotherapy, her teeth need care.

"This is super important because she's miserable right now and she's been living on Social Security Disability and can't afford a dentist," Stubblefield said. "So this is a tremendous help. It's a real blessing and I'm grateful for all the volunteers here that are doing this."
