Public's help sought in Cooke Co. fatal hit & run

GAINESVILLE, Tex. (KXII) The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public's help in their investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist dead over the weekend.

Troopers say their preliminary investigation indicates just before 9 p.m. Friday a newer model Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup was eastbound on FM-678 at County Road 219 when it struck a motorcycle, ridden by 63-year-old David Smith of Gainesville. Smith was taken to a Denton hospital, where he later died.

According to DPS, the driver of that pickup left the scene of the crash.
Troopers say the vehicle has front end damage. They believe it may be black or smoky colored, has four doors, tinted windows and a regular bed.

Anyone with any information on the crash or was in the area at the time is asked to call the DPS office in Gainesville at 940-668-5417.
