SADLER, Tex. (KXII) -- An icy overpass played a role in an accident that claimed the life of a Savoy City Councilman early Wednesday morning.

An icy overpass played a role in an accident that claimed the life of Savoy City Councilman Brent 'Mike' Stone early Wednesday morning.

Texas Department of Public Safety officers said Brent Stone, known as Mike to most of the Savoy community, was driving to work in Whitesboro when he lost control of his pickup truck.

Stone, 45, was able to crawl out of the wreckage, but he was then hit and killed by a semi truck.

Troopers said the semi truck did not stop, and they were not sure that the driver of the semi truck knew that he hit someone.

"He was loved," Jeremiah Orr said about Stone, who was also a Savoy City Council member. "He was a backbone in this community. everybody loved him around here."

Troopers said Stone's family got into a separate accident while trying to get to Whitesboro. They weren't seriously hurt.

"He always went out of his way to help a neighbor, to make sure everyone was doing okay. he was a devoted father," Orr said.
