UPDATE: Efforts to recover the semi driver's body have been called off for the night.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers say two people have died in a major crash on the Roosevelt Bridge Thursday afternoon that has US Highway 70 closed in both directions.

Troopers tell us a semi and a car collided on the bridge over Lake Texoma that connects Bryan and Marshall counties around 2 p.m.

They say the vehicle burst into flames on the bridge, and the semi went off the bridge and is now fully submerged in the lake.

"There is currently an unknown spill in the water moving south from the Roosevelt Bridge," Lt. Scott Hampton tweeted Thursday afternoon. "Please avoid the area."

Troopers ask travelers to avoid the area and find an alternate route. ODOT says both lanes of traffic will remain closed Friday.

Bryan County Emergency Management stated on their Facebook page that westbound thru traffic is being detoured north on Silo Road to SR 78, then West on SR 199.

If drivers pass the detour, you will be stopped and turned around at Willow Springs Road.
