SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) -- The Sherman Police Department is now accepting application for their Citizen's Police Academy.
The goals of the 9-week program are to increase understanding of police work and develop teamwork between the community and law enforcement.
The free classes will be taught by Sherman police officers.
They'll cover a variety of topics such as patrol, criminal and narcotics investigations, the K-9 unit and use of force.
"It's going to be neat because they're going to be able to ask questions, see some of the things that we do," said Sgt. D.M. Hampton. "We want feedback from them, as we do this more and more."
The class begins on April 6th and is limited to the first 15 qualified applicants. Attendees must be 18 years of age or older and live, work, or attend school in Sherman.
Anyone interested can contact Sgt. Hampton at 903-892-7365 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
