Sherman's first dog park in the works for fall

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) -- The city of Sherman is adding it's first dog park sometime this fall, but first, they need input from citizens.

"Sherman is a place that is growing and expanding, and it's sad we don't have a dog park now," said Dylan Johnson, Recreation Voordinator with Parks and Recreation.

Johnson said they want to put the $25,000 dog park likely in a field behind Fairview Park. It's money they already have in the budget.

He said the closest dog park is 30 minutes away in Gainesville.

It's something local dog owners said they're excited for.

"It's an excellent idea," said a Denison man. "Where we come from in Colorado, they have dog parks anywhere you go up in the mountains."

Parks and Recreation is asking for your input.

They posted a survey over the weekend and said they already had more than 100 people give their opinions on what they'd like to see.

"We're getting lots of input, especially people interested in a small dog side and big dog side of the park," Johnson said.

Johnson said once they collect public feedback, they'll draft a plan, and could open up as soon as this fall.
