POTTSBORO, Tex. (KXII) For the 8th year in a row volunteers took soldiers fishing at Lake Texoma.
The program is called Operation-Welcome Home.
"Every year it grows into a bigger tradition and we had the biggest amount of soldiers this year. We had 125."
Several volunteers devoted their Saturday to support those who have served in the military and their families.
"We wanted to do something for them and this is something they really deserve."
By giving them all a fun day at the lake.
The annual event is made possible thanks to donations from the community.
"It's a warm feeling to know that there are people out there who care."
More than two dozen striper guides donated their boats and services to help these soldiers fish.
And for many, it was their first time on Lake Texoma.
"It's my first time coming to something like this. It's pretty nice. Caught a lot of fish today. It's ma fun time to be out in the water."
The weekend getaway is also a chance for soldiers to unwind.
"It's relaxing. Being able to do something like this is really nice. Getting away from working everyday."
Both men say they hope to come back again next year.
