This is the third year the departments have hosted the event to help local families during the Christmas season.

It's a special moment for the officers and firefighters involved.

"Every year, it's so exciting," Southmayd Police Chief Chad McKee said. "My heart just melts every year. I get these kids out and take them shopping and see them get all the presents they're not able to get. It just melts my heart."

The department is helping 28 children.
