SULPHUR, Okla. (KXII) -- Sulphur Public Schools went on lockdown Friday morning after a student was spotted near the campus with what was reported to be a weapon.

The superintendent says a concerned citizen saw the student with the suspicious item -- which police say ended up being a BB gun -- and called police.

The superintendent says police quickly found the student, and the BB gun that had been dropped in the area.

He says the student is in custody, and that the matter is still under investigation.

Schools were on lockdown for half an hour before resuming class.
