AUSTIN, Tex. (KXII) -- Governor Greg Abbott requested Tuesday that the Texas Rangers launch an investigation into the recent allegations of sexual assault of athletes at the Karolyi Ranch in Walker County.
Karolyi Ranch previously served as the National Training Center for USA Gymnastics.
In the investigation of former gymnastics team doctor Larry Nasser, multiple athletes came forward with allegations of sexual abuse while training at the facility.
Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison last week. More than 150 women and girls have said he had molested them under the guise of medical treatment.
"The public statements made by athletes who previously trained at the Karolyi Ranch are gut-wrenching," Abbott wrote in his request. "Those athletes, as well as all Texans, deserve to know that no stone is left unturned to ensure that the allegations are thoroughly vetted and the perpetrators and enablers of any such misconduct are brought to justice."
Abbott ordered the investigation because it involves multiple jurisdictions and multiple states.
