SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) -- People in Sherman now have a new way to go and grab a free book to read, and there's 18 different places to choose from.
The Sherman Leadership Class of 2017 is behind the Little Free Libraries project and Wednesday, the first one opened its door.
"I like to read Clifford," 6-year-old Olivia Mahone said.
"My favorite books are Lemony Snicket books," 8-year-old Lucy Pedersen said.
Sponsors from all over Sherman donated the money to open up 18 Little Free Library's in the city.
Wednesday, the first one was officially installed outside AmeriState Bank, and some of those books have already found a new home.
"I like getting books from the library," Mahone said.
"I grew up in a home where there weren't a lot of books, so this would have been an outstanding thing for me, if I was at school or at a church or at a public location, where I could just walk up and grab a book," Leadership Sherman member Ashton Ghaemi said.
The only rule with these Little Free Libraries is if you come and take one of the books, you're supposed to replace it with a new one.
"They can take a book and then leave a book," Ghaemi said.
"I put 'Green Eggs and Ham' in and then I got 'Wish,'" Pedersen said.
Each little library is $350, including the books for both kids and adults.
Three others are now open as well: Sherman Fire Central Station, Pecan Grove Station and Sory Elementary School.
"It's a great way to encourage literacy and a sense of community," Ghaemi said.
Owner of Nautilus Family Fitness Shawn Teamann said he'll soon have one right at the front entrance to the gym.
"To get people involved with sharing their resources and sharing fun books that they may have read with their children or books that they just enjoy," Teamann said.
All of the libraries are in a spot where you can just walk up and grab a book. The 14 other Little Free Libraries will be opening in the next few weeks.
Their locations are:
Medicine Shoppe- Sherman
WNJ- Main Lobby
Boys & Girls Club Sherman
Nautilus Family Fitness

The remaining locations are still not confirmed.
