Three Fannin County school districts close due to flu outbreak

FANNIN COUNTY, Tex. (KXII) - Three school districts in Fannin County joined the growing list of Texoma schools that are closing their doors to stop the spread of flu.

Fannindel, Honey Grove and Sam Rayburn ISD's all announced they'll close through Tuesday, after more students and staff missed due to illness, including over 70 students and 8 staff members at Sam Rayburn.

Sam Rayburn ISD Superintendent Cole McClendon said in a statement to parents and staff that the district had seen a spike in confirmed influenza cases in recent days, especially at the elementary campus.

The district hired Germ Blast, a company that focuses on deep cleaning and sanitizing during flu outbreaks.

Honey Grove announced that all extracurricular activities through Tuesday are also cancelled.

Two Fannindel students we spoke with say as the week progressed they noticed more than a few dozen classmates were at home sick.

"Well it didn't start out on Tuesday when we came back to school after the holiday because everyone was fine but it started soon after and it got worse and worse over time," 9th grader Stephan Olsen told News 12.
