Tree removal scam hits city of Whitesboro

WHITESBORO, Tex. (KXII) -- As Whitesboro residents work to recover from this past week's storm, police are warning about scammers taking advantage of the chaos.

Police warn that there is a group of people going from house to house telling homeowners that the city has given them 24 hours to get their downed trees removed or they will be fined.

They then give the homeowners a quote to remove the trees.

Police say there is no city fine and this is not true.

If you have any questions, call Whitesboro police.
