GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas (KXII) Texomans now have some new options when it comes to transportation. As of Friday, Uber now serves Grayson County.
David Goodman lives in Whitesboro and has worked for Uber for nearly a year, but he's had to travel to Lewisville, Denton and even Dallas just to get riders.
But now Uber can be found in several places around Grayson County.
"Small towns between Whitesboro to Sherman, Sherman, Pottsboro, Denison, Bonham Texas is included."
That's why when he found out Sherman was offering the ride-sharing service, he took the wheel.
To request a driver, riders need to download the Uber app on their smart phones and with a touch of a button their driver arrives.
When we caught up with Goodman, he told us he had only been driving a few minutes.
"Right now you're the first one."
Uber is Goodman's primary job.
Sherman Council member, Shawn Teamann says jobs were a big reason why the city passed an ordinance five years ago allowing ride-sharing services like Uber.
It states that cabs and ride sharing services have to register with the city, maintain insurance, registration and perform background checks.
"It's been a collaborative effort and its been worked on for years and we're just excited to see it come to fruition."
Before Uber, the only forms of public transportation were two taxi companies and TAPS a bus service that had to dramatically scale back for four months due to financial troubles.
Maricella Aleman says she's ready to give uber a try.
"I hear that its more convenient than a taxi cab. That their quick to responding to your calls, and I hear that the fees are a lot less."
Our ride from KXII studios on Texoma Parkway to Spur 503 in Denison cost us $6.
