Undercover agent catches man distributing child porn

CHOCTAW CO, Okla. (KXII) -- Court documents say 41-year-old Paul Jacob Scarberry of Valliant was charged Thursday with child porn distribution and possession.

"This type of activity, it's praying on children. These cases wouldn't exist were it not for the fact that somebody has victimized a child somewhere," said prosecuting attorney and Oklahoma assistant attorney general Matthew Adams.

Arrest affidavits describe in detail conversations between Scarberry and an undercover Wisconsin Department of Justice special agent.

The two met when someone arrested for similar crimes in Chicago gave investigators a list of people they had shared pictures with and allowed investigators to use their messaging accounts to catch other predators.

"The undercover aspect of the investigation is just really important in terms of being able to find the specifics related to a particular suspect," said Adams.

In February, Scarberry began to send videos and pictures showing children, usually under the age of 12, engaged in sexual behavior.

Federal, state and local authorities worked together to get the necessary search and arrest warrants to track Scarberry down.

"It's a team effort. We can't do these alone, quite frankly. We need all of those different people to help us be able to prosecute these cases," said Adams.

Scarberry was arrested at his job working for the City of Hugo and admitted to having the pictures and videos on his phone.

"Every time that an image or video of this kind of material is traded on the Internet, they are re-harming that victim yet again," said Adams.

Scarberry is in the Choctaw County jail on a $150,000 bond. If convicted of all three charges, he could face up to 45 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
