The skies opened up and delivered our first significant rainfall in a month, so though it was not a day for a picnic, Valentine’s Day in Texoma was certainly a love-fest for the plants and the soil.
The pattern returns to dry weather through the weekend, but with cooler temperatures than we saw last week, lower evaporation means we should enjoy good soil moisture for a number of days. Another shot of rain could arrive Sunday, more likely Monday as the next upper-level system heads our way.
The Valentine’s Day rain event puts a nice dent in the drought, but we’re not out of the “dry woods” just yet. We’ll need a few more good rains to erase it completely. Given the outlook for a warmer than normal spring, we’ll need some nice doses of rain to offset expected greater than average evaporation.
