VAN ALSTYNE, Tex. (KXII) -- A Texoma Mayor in hot water for endorsing a candidate in a city newsletter and sending it out in residents' water bills.
Some residents feel the letter used city resources to endorse a council member up for reelection.
But Van Alstyne Mayor, Larry Cooper, also a lawyer, says he's unsure whether he did anything wrong.
The council consulted with the city attorney in executive session about the matter Tuesday night.
According to Federal Campaigning Finance laws, there is a strict regulation of prohibited contributions and expenditures.
In Tuesday's council meeting, the City Attorney announced they will be turning the newsletter over to the Texas Ethics Commission and District Attorney Joe Brown.
