This week's A+ Athlete is Bailey Bonner from Coleman High School.
You can see Bailey in a Lady Wildcat uniform on the hardwood and the diamond. She was an instrumental part of the slow-pitch team making it to state last season. Bailey appreciates the family aspect of sports and the desire to constantly improve.
"I feel if not everyone on my team is doing their best that they possibly can, or if I don't want them to get better, there's something wrong with me," said Bonner. "It's not something with them. So if I want to do the best, then my teammates should have feelings to make me want to do my best, and I should do the same for them."
"She's got that personality about her that you wish you had in all of your athletes and kids," said head basketball and softball coach Monte Gaston. She's just a caring kid and a great kid on and off the court."
In the classroom, Bailey ranks second in the senior class with a 4.12 GPA. She's been a class officer for the past four years, part of the two-time state runner-up Academic Team and collected 15 college credit hours thus far.
"I know that if you work hard with your grades, then you're always going to be rewarded no matter what happens," said Bonner. "And even though you might not always be rewarded with sports, if you work hard, you're going to get somewhere."
"She comes in and gets right after it," said math teacher Jamie Marak. "She leads by example. She's one that isn't afraid of the hard work that it's going to take to get wherever she needs to go."
After graduation, Bailey plans to attend Murray State College and work toward becoming a nurse. And that's why Bailey Bonner is this week's A+ Athlete.
