This weeks A+ Athlete is Devon Chapa of Madill High School. Devon is a pitcher for the Wildcats where he was voted to the All-Conference team.
"Sports have mainly taught me leadership skills," said Chapa. "It really helps me out in life and everything I can do with it. It's all about confidence. There's a certain swagger I have about me right now."
"His confidence, he's confident on the mound, he's been there a lot," said Mike Matlack, Madill head baseball coach. "it just goes back to his hard work. I mean, we put in the time in the off season, in the weight room, he works extra hard in there."
And here's a knuckle ball. Devon has a 4.38 GPA while being a part of the National Honor Society, a member of gifted and talented, and he's on the student council. As a senior Devon has taken his leadership skills from the diamond and transferred them to the classroom.
"I help out other students whenever they're having trouble, and they help me out. It's a give and take." Said Chapa.
"He wants to be successful," said Sharon Boyd, Madill High School teacher. "And maybe he wants to do better than his sister, I don't know, but they're both very smart."
And the accolades don't stop there. Devon took 3rd in State Archery. Which is another way Devon Chapa has hit the Bulls-eye as this week's A+ Athlete.
