A&M Commerce won their first NCAA Division II National Championship in December to add to their NAIA National Title from 1972. The football team is grateful for the community supports.

"It goes to show what neat community that we live in and region of East Texas," said head football coach Colby Carthel. That's what this National Championship was. It wasn't just a team win. It was a University championship, a city championship and it was a regional championship for everybody. Because they're so many spokes inside the national championship wheel that rolled all the way to Kansas City and came home with a win."
