ADA, OKLA. – East Central University Head Football Coach Al Johnson has added 22 student-athletes to his first roster with the Tigers on National Signing Day. All 22 student-athletes will be freshman for the 2018 season.
"My staff and I set a goal with this class to fill our immediate needs and those that will arise in the future and this class does that," said Johnson. "This group of student-athletes fits our goals academically as well as athletically. I want to thank our coaching staff for their hard work in recruiting and relationship building with these future Tigers and their families. Especially Joe Foster and Garret Johnson who continued to recruit through the transition."
The group consist of 18 players from Oklahoma and four from Texas. ECU will add five offensive lineman, four linebackers, four wide receivers, three defensive backs, two corner backs, two wide receivers, a tight end, a safety and a defensive lineman.
"I am extremely excited to see what the future holds for this 2018 class. This is a very diverse group of student-athletes that I believe will do great things in the class room, community and on the football field," Johnson added. "We will also add a large group of walk-on players in this class that I believe will bring the same level of commitment. These 22 student-athletes along with our outstanding group of walk-on players will be the future foundation of our program."
Astin Anderson – Helped Midwest City High School to a state semifinalist spot and a 6A-II-1 Championship as a senior…team fished the season with a 10-2 record…earned all-conference and all-district honors as a running back…recorded 125 carries for 1,000 yards.
Tyler Barnett – Played at Tahlequah High School as a freshman and then spent three years at Sequoyah High School…helped the Indians to the playoffs for three-straight seasons…recorded over 100 tackles per year…as a senior tallied 189 tackles, three forced fumbles and a touchdown.
Jamal Brown – Played at Desoto High School…helped the team to a bi-district championship in 2017 and the state title in 2016…earned all-district honors as a junior…moved from defense to offense between his junior and senior seasons…caught 15 passes for 318 yards and had five touchdowns in five games in 2017.
Kenneth Duesman – Spent three seasons on the Tomball Memorial High School varsity team…claimed all-district honorable mention honors as a senior…also named to the all-district academic team…recorded 53 tackles and 2.0 sacks in 2017…also participated in basketball as a prep.
Joshua Garza – Played four seasons on the varsity team at Cyril High School…named the district newcomer of the year (2015), offensive player of the year (2016) and MVP (2017)……as a junior was named to the VYPE Top-100, Southwestern Oklahoma Football Offensive Player of the Year and was an all-state honorable mention…played quarterback, wide receiver and defense…as a senior threw for 1,207 yards, with 21 touchdowns…rush 47 times for 229 yards and two TDs…also recorded 75 tackles…also participated in weightlifting and track & field as a prep…was a member of the National Honor Society.
Parker Greenwood – Spent four seasons on the varsity team at Shawnee High School…helped the Wolves to a district title as a freshman a runner-up district title as a senior…earned all-district honors in 2017…also participated in wrestling, powerlifting and track & field as a prep.
Houston Haines – Played at Sulphur High School…named the district MVP and was an all-state selection as a senior…recorded 24 catches for 578 yards and 21 carriers for 225 yards in 2017…member of the National Honor Society…also participated in basketball and track & field as a prep.
Kyle Hinds – Played at Plano West High School…named to the All-District 6-6A team as a senior…recorded 102 tackles, three interceptions and four forced fumbles in 2017.
JayQuan Lincoln – Spent four seasons at Lawton High School…helped the Wolverines to two state championships (2014 & 2016) and to the playoffs all four seasons…named to the all-state team as a senior…had 978 receiving and 240 rushing yards, with 11 TDs and three interceptions in 2017…also participated in track & field as a prep.
Tige Mielke – Played on the Choctaw High School team for four seasons…earned all-district and all-conference honors as a senior…earned four academic all-state honors…was a member of the National Honor Society.
KeJuan Neal – Spent two seasons on the varsity team at Lawton High School…helped the Wolverines to a state runner-up title as a junior…recorded 56 tackles, eight PBUs and four interceptions in 2017…also participated in track & field as a prep.
Dalyan Poole – Played for four seasons at Owasso High School…helped the Rams to a state title in 2017…recorded 55 tackles, five sacks, two PBUs and an interception as a senior…also participated in track & field as a prep.
Jakob Smalley – Played at Ada High School…helped the Cougars to a state runner-up finish in 2017.
Dale Storie – Spent four seasons on the varsity team at Shawnee High School…helped the team to the state playoffs all four seasons…earned all-district and all-star honors as a senior…also named to the all-state honorable mention team in 2017…also participated in powerlifting.
Briston Summers – Spent four seasons on the varsity team at Davis High School…helped the team to four-straight 2A-District titles and a state championship in 2014…earned all-star quarterback and all-state safety honors as a senior.
Paris Tolver – Played at John Marshall High School…helped the team to a state championship in 2017…recorded 48 tackles and 13 sacks as a senior.
Logan Tougas – Spent four seasons on the varsity team at Noble High School…named freshman lineman of the year in 2014…earned district lineman of the year honors as a senior…also participated in powerlifting and was a class officer as a prep.
Jarrod Vineyard – Helped Poteau High School to four-straight appearances in the state playoffs…earned all-state, all-district and offensive lineman of the year honors as a senior…also participated in wrestling, powerlifting and track & field as a prep.
Brady Williams – Played at Lincoln Christian High School his first two seasons and then transferred to Berryhill High School. Helped Lincoln Christian to two district championships and a state runner-up title in 2015…earned academic all-state honors as a freshman and sophomore…helped Berryhill to two district titles…named all-district and All-Star 3A honors in 2017…record 1,021 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns and 101 receiving yards as a senior.
Bryce Williams – Spent four seasons on the varsity team at Southmoore High School…earned first team all- conference and honorable mention all-district honors in 2017.
Chris Williams – Played at Plano East High School…recorded five PBUs, four sacks and nine tackles-for-loss as a senior…also participated in track & field as a prep.
Tyler Yakubchik – Played at Plainview High School…helped the Indians to the second round of the playoffs as a senior…earned all-state, 3A All-Star and 3A-4 Defensive Back of the Year honors in 2017.
