It wasn't that long ago that Justin Lawler was hauling in touchdown passes for the Pottsboro Cardinals, not to mention, throwing down opposing backs in the backfield.
Now, the star SMU defensive end is receiving recognition for his work off the field. Lawler is a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, which rewards community service.
Lawler has been a big part of his community by visiting Children's hospitals, participating in Relay for Life, reading to children at elementary schools, and volunteering to help promote education.
Lawler is one 146 nominees from across the country. The final roster will have 22 student-athletes on it and will be unveiled in September.
