The Texoma Christian School Eagles are geared up and ready for their first football season with Scott Richey at the helm. And the new skipper believes the 4th place predicted finish is a bit of a low ball.
"I think my predictions are a little different than that," said Ritchey. "I think we're going to finish first in our district. I'm always optimistic, and they don't know my kids."
And he's not the only one with high expectations.
"I think we'll make the playoffs," said quarterback Jack Turner. "It's a bold prediction. I feel like our team has gelled together this year and we're going to go far."
"Ideally, we're looking to go to the playoffs and maybe win state, but we'll see," said offensive lineman Jake Neidert. "We got to play it one day at a time, one practice at a time."
In their first season with a Varsity squad, the Eagles just missed the playoffs with a 4-6 record. Two of those wins coming in district. But Coach Ritchey knows his team has had time to learn from 2016 and improve.
"I think we've improved a lot because our kids are more mature this year," said Ritchey. "We had several Juniors last year that got to play a lot. With a small group of kids, everybody gets to play a lot of football. So i think for that reason we're going to be experienced and ready to play."
