PONTOTOC COUNTY, OK -- A three-vehicle-crash that happened on Oklahoma Highway 1 near the Chickasaw Turnpike left two people dead Tuesday evening.
According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 22-year old, Hailey Hatton, drove her car into the center line on the highway where she crashed head on into a trailer, and then a pickup truck.
"She hit the trailer first being pulled by another vehicle," said Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian "Then hit a second vehicle."
Its driver, 47-year old Boyd Bolin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hatton was taken to Purcell Municipal Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Riding in her car was her 2 month old son. He was airlifted from the scene to OU Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City where he’s in stable condition. It is has not yet been determined why she drove across the center line.
"Oklahoma Highway Patrol will look at that and make a determination on what her speed was and what the speed of the other vehicles was," said Christian. "They can determine that from their investigation and measurements that they calculate on scene."
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, only 2 people had their seatbelt on. Neither Hatton or Bolin had their seatbelt on, and Sheriff Christian said it could have made a difference.
"Certainly we always believe that a seatbelt helps. In this type of situation, it may not have saved her life, but it could have been a possibility," said Christian.
