TOM BEAN, TX -- A fire in Grayson County scorched more than 40 acres Monday afternoon.
Fire Marshal David Gallagher said around 4:30 PM a fire on the side of Ball Road in Tom Bean spread into a pasture.
Six departments responded helping to put out the blaze before it reached any nearby structures.
Gallagher said this heat and the dry, windy conditions fueled the flames.
Gallagher said, "Main thing you can do is try to keep any dead brush and vegetation away from your house. Keep the grass cut as short as you can around your house probably about 25 to 30 feet around your structure and just be alert."
Gallagher says this is one of the largest grass fires the county has seen this season.
