ADA, OK -- Ada residents say they're relieved to hear the city will be getting both a new fire and police station.

One resident said, "I think that Ada has reached a growing expansion where we need to relocate both departments for the safety of this community."

The council approved the proposal for a new police station to be built on Cradduck Road and East Central Boulevard and a new fire station at 14th Street and Broadway.

Mayor Greg McCortney says the construction of these new facilities is long overdue.

McCortney said, "In all reality they need twice as much room as they have right now. Just to get back up to where they need to be and for the fire the building itself is crumbling around the firefighters and cn't be restored. "

McCortney says the price tag for both buildings will run around $7 million dollars.

Paid for by the Penny For Our City sales tax that was approved in 2010.

The sales tax funds various city projects like improving fire and police stations and other city building renovations

He says they've been raising the money for 3 years and the council is excited to be one step closer to construction

McCortney said, "I think we've done our homework and I've think we've made great decisions here...but now being able to start turning dirt and drawings and the next step. I'm really excited to be there."

McCortney says the next step is to purchase both properties...and city council hopes to have those contracts in order within the next couple weeks.
