ADA, OK - A man questioned by investigators in a hit and run accident 10 days ago that left an Ada man critically injured was arrested yesterday in Ada. Troop F Captain Ronnie Hampton of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 18-year-old Rowdy Colton Wright faces charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.
According to Hampton, an OHP investigation revealed Wright intentionally ran over and then backed over 23-year-old Josh Stein of Ada in the Outlaws nightclub parking lot in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 21, before fleeing the scene.
"Our investigation revealed that Rowdy Wright got into an argument at the bar, was in the processing of exiting the parking lot when he intentionally turned his truck around and drove back into the parking area, aiming his Ford F350 truck directly at Josh Stein and striking him, knocking him under the truck, Wright then backed over Stein once again before leaving the parking lot and having no contact with law enforcement for over 24 hours", Hampton said.
Hampton says Stein remains in critical condition at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City suffering from injuries sustained when he was ran down in the parking lot of Outlaw's Bar east of Ada just off State Highway 1. His family tells us Stein had just gotten out the Unites States Marine Corps and is a father of two with another child on the way.
"The OHP has stayed in constant contact with the Stein family as they haven't left Josh's side since arriving at OU Medical Center. His injuries and disfigurement will last for the remainder of his life and this was all totally unavoidable", said Hampton.
A court date for Wright is pending.
