ARDMORE, OK - Ardmore Police are on high alert after someone tried to abduct a child while she walked to a bus stop.

Police say a passenger in a car grabbed the girl near 6th and D Street NW around 8 a.m. on Monday.

The girl's mother, who asked not to be identified by name, said the third grader was walking alone to the spot where she catches the bus a couple blocks away.

The girl later told her that a man jumped out of the blue or greenish car and pulled her on the arm, but that she did not see the driver.

"Luckily, she started hitting him and screaming and got away from him," the woman said.

The bus came toward the end of the incident, taking her on to school, but she later went home for the day, the mother said.

Her daughter told her that unlike what is usual, no other students had come to the bus stop.

Police are now looking for the man and his vehicle. They say he's a white man and may have had tattoos on his forearm in a small green 2-door car.

Some neighbors drive their kids to the bus stop. Ardmore Police urge anyone who sees suspicious activity near any bus stops or schools to contact them immediately.
